JOB DESCRIPTION

As a key member of the skating department and I.C.E- I Can Excel team, the Assistant Director of Skating will support the Skating Director to help our students develop proficient skating skills, confidence in their ability to achieve personal goals and a life-long appreciation for physical fitness and nutrition. In this part–time position (approximately 20 hours per week including on and off-ice roles) the Assistant Director of Skating will assist in achieving these objectives as well as ensuring the safety and well-being of each student.  There is an opportunity for this to become a full-time position based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.

Our mission is to help girls of color from underserved communities achieve confidence, leadership and academic achievement. DUTIES

After-School and Summer Skating Programs

  • Assist the Director of Skating in planning, organizing and implementing the on-ice instructional activities for 170 students in the after-school program and 100 girls in the Summer program. Ensure that all students learn basic skating skills and make progress toward their goals throughout the season.  Measure results through periodic testing using the USFS standards.
  • Assist the Director of Skating in planning, organizing and implementing the off-ice conditioning activities (“Go Fit” and Dance) to ensure students gain better body awareness, physical coordination and stamina. Measure progress and outcomes through periodic fitness tests.
  • Assist the Skating Director with the hiring, training and supervising of 8-10 skating coaches.
  • Supervise at least one general skating session and teach at least one group skating class.
  • Model and imbed FSH values in to the program and set a tone of excellence, energy and high expectations for students and coaches.
  • Assist the Director of Skating in managing the inventory of skating equipment and completing skate fittings.
  • Maintain student information, test records, group rosters and equipment in the database.


Event Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Skating in the planning, organizing and implementing the Annual Ice Show when students perform choreographed programs with music and costumes in front of an audience of 1200 family and friends.
  • Assist the Director of Skating with planning, organizing and implementing the student exhibitions for the Winter Skating Party, showing a range of skill sets that students are working on.
  • Assist the Director of Skating in overseeing student participation in other special performances (3-4/year).


Harlem ICE Synchronized Skating Teams

  • Manage the synchronized skating program, overseeing the coaches of three teams.
  • Plan and organize the try-out process and selection of teams.
  • In partnership with the Director of Skating and team coaches, select the competitions, choreograph the programs and select music and costumes.
  • Manage the competition logistics including the schedule, travel arrangements, collecting permission forms/ waivers and scheduling the chaperones.
  • Coordinate team communication and team building events.
  • Conduct parent meetings throughout the year.
  • Regularly attend team practices to evaluate progress. Send updates of progress to Director of Skating.
  • Write monthly reports including outcomes, student progress, program assessments and program plans.


QUALIFICATIONS

Strong skating experience; synchronized skating experience preferred
Experience supervising skating coaches
Bachelor’s Degree required
Education experience and/or current graduate education student.
Experience working with students ages 6-18
Superb organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Current with USFS membership, PSA membership (if applicable) and CER compliant
Passion for youth development and education
High energy, positive attitude, flexible
Demonstrates record of personal initiative and results focus
