The Response

Since our inception, Figure Skating in Harlem has continued to bring a uniquely enriching skating and educational experience to hundreds of deserving young girls, the vast majority of whom return year after year. Yet even as we have expanded our enrollment, staffing and services, our waiting list continues to grow exponentially.

In 2009, Figure Skating in Harlem (FSH) will embark on an exciting journey to find a new home of our own for year-round skating and educational programming that will allow us to double or even triple the number of participants. We aim to open our first "Leading Edge Skating and Education Center" in Harlem complete with an ice facility as well as classrooms, a technology center, library, dance/fitness studio, and expanded administrative and storage space. Here girls will come for skating instructions and an array of classes from public speaking, financial literacy, yoga, dance, nutrition, academic tutoring and much more.

Finally, FSH receives requests to replicate our model throughout the country. We hope to continue serving as an inspiration to others, and to one day create a network of skating and education programs that benefits children in many underserved communities.
