5 Reasons Why Your Child Should Join a Summer Camp!

A summer camp can be one of the most rewarding unforgettable experiences in a child’s life. Without the pressures of school, children can thrive and continue to hone their academic skills while maintaining a physically active regimen. Figure Skating in Harlem’s Summer Dream Camp provides a community of caring mentors, teachers and friends to help prepare for school next year!

There are so many benefits to providing an organized summer experience. Here are Figure Skating in Harlem’s Director of Education, Wendy Tinkoff’s “5 Reasons Why Your Child Should Join a Summer Camp!”

1. Explore Interests

Camp allows children to explore activities and programs that could turn into lifelong passions. Last year our girls learned about chemical reactions in their Summer Dreams Camp STEM classes, went on field trips to museums and even tried their hand at knitting. Camp is a place where children can be exposed to a little bit of everything.

2. Promote Fitness

Camp is a place where children can get up and get moving. Throughout the week at our Summer Dreams Camp the girls are involved in a vast array of physical activities such as:  yoga, dance, nutrition, GO-FIT, figure skating, and more.

3. Develop Independence

Camp can empower children to be independent and navigate through life confidently. Our Summer Dreams Camp teaches girls to take care of themselves while receiving guidance from counselors. It is so great to see them expand their communication and public speaking skills, solve a math problem on their own or lace up their skates by themselves for the first time. It is a rite of passage!

4. Experience Diversity

Camp connects girls who may not normally meet. Campers gain exposure to girls from many different schools and cultures. The first day of our Summer Dreams Camp is always so rewarding for me. I watch all of the hugging and laughter as returning campers, who have not seen each other since last summer, reunite.

5. Make Friends

Camp allows our girls to develop new friendships and deepen the connection with old friends. Building successful bonds encourages social confidence in youth. One thing that is very clear to me, our girls are very socially confident for their age. It is a pleasure to observe our girls interact with one another and develop a sense of sisterhood.

The summer is an exciting time of year for everyone. Whatever you do this summer I hope it is fun and safe!
