Our award-winning afterschool and summer programs provide girls ages 6 to 18 from low income communities with access to innovative education, health and wellness services that help them reach their fullest potential.  Our vision is for every student, regardless of socio-economic background, to acquire the foundational academic, social and leadership skills to achieve her dreams. Headquartered in Harlem, we have launched our first satellite chapter in Detroit – Figure Skating in Detroit.

Job Description:  

As part of the I Can Excel (ICE) skating team, the GO-FIT Instructor will work under the supervision of the Director of Skating. The GO-FIT Instructor will teach the Girls Off-Ice Fitness Investment Training (GO-FIT) program, focusing on fitness, balance and body awareness through different dance genres to prepare each FSH student for their on-ice classes as well as increase overall fitness and body placement.


  • Instruct and facilitate dance class programs and routines that engage groups in building fitness, balance, and body awareness and positioning through a variety of dance and exercise genres
  • Foster positive social and emotional growth in students as they participate in all FSH activities
  • Help create a safe and supportive environment to maximize student engagement during program hours
  • Report all accident/incidents, inform the Director of Skating of any program issues or concerns regarding a students’ progress and/or behavior
  • Uphold FSH values and youth development principles
  • Maintain system to record the progression of skaters’ skills and attendance
  • Encourage positive student behavior that promotes character development
    Maintain meaningful positive rapport with students and parents
  • Perform any related duties or special projects as directed by supervisor


  • Must be current member of Learn to Skate USA and/or USFS and compliant with USFS
  • Must have training in Ballet, with knowledge of other dance genres a plus
  • 21 years of age or older
  • USFS Basic Skills coaching experience with elementary, middle and high school level students
  • Must be energetic, enthusiastic and like working with children
  • Knowledge of other relevant areas (nutrition, sports injuries, anatomy, etc) a plus
  • Must be willing to work with other instructors or specialists over the year

Days:  Monday, Tuesdays, Thursdays, hours vary between 5:00-7:00pm
